Well it’s my birthday today and I’m going away for the weekend to whitby my hubby thought it be a nice present for me cant wait to go whitby is one of are favorite places. I love the little shops and the restaraunts there will post some pictures later : )

Went to a different restaurant last week called WasabiSabi for are wedding anniversary. The food was great we shared a sushi platter that was served on a wooden boat which looked really good, we really want to go again there’s lots of different food to choose from like Ramen and Sashimi. I would recommend it to everyone : )

Finally got to go abroad this year went to portugal. I was a bit worried about the flight as never flown before but I loved it in the end, really want to travel more now. Portugal was really nice and would recommend it to everyone. Here’s some photo’s for you all : )

My Manga Report

Had to write a 300+ English assignment for an English course that im doing at the moment and thought I would share it with you all : )

Something I really like to do in my spare time is read. I enjoy reading many different types of novels, which include general fiction and Manga. Not many people know about manga in western country’s, It came about in the 1800′s in Japan and is very popular in Japan today, Manga constituted an annual 406 billion Japanese yen by 2007, around 3.6 billion US dollars.

Manga is a Japanese comic or graphic novel, that you read right to left instead of left to right. Many Manga’s are based on Anime’s which are Japanese animated shows and films. I have many Manga’s that are based on shows that I have watched, there are usually quite a few books to a series and are always numbered there can be 30 plus Manga books to one Anime show. The art work in Manga is very much like the animated characters in the shows and always very detailed and well drawn. Anime is drawn in much the same artistic style.

There are many Manga cafes in Japan where people drink coffee and read Manga, kind of like Internet cafes in western country’s. It only started to take off and become popular in the US in the early Nineties, It’s also become popular in Europe and the UK now.

I have to buy Manga online from specialist websites as there are not many stores in the UK. I’m hoping that in the future Manga will be more recognised and popular in the UK, so that it will become more widely available and more shops will open up for the demand. One of my favourite Manga’s which I have is called Dears and is based on the Anime of the same name. My hubby has 35 plus Manga books and I love reading then and hope to get many more in the future myself.

The otaku encyclopedia

My hubby got this book awhile ago and I started reading it. The book is an A to Z of the subculture of cool Japan. I’ve not read thruogh it completley yet but I have found out some interesting stuff in the book and a lot of information that I did’nt know, something very interesting about cosplay and how it’s becoming very popular overseas now.

Also learned what race queens are there’s interviews in the book and I read Ayakawa Yunmao interview she’s a professional cosplayer and a race queen at the weekends, It sounds like a really fun job and It got me thinking that I would’nt mind doing something like that myself because I have such a love for cars you basically have to go to racing events and hold an umbrella over a driver while he is parked. Then as I read on I found out that you have to be a minimum of 170 centimeters and I’m quite small, so I mesured myself out of curiosity and I’m only 157 centimeters so sadly I dont measur up : (

I even came across Danny Choo in the book and he’s comented about the book on the back page saying “you can’t possibly be called an otaku without this book”. Studio gibli is also mentioned in the book.

New Films

I must go and see these two films It’s my birthday in November so I’ve asked my hubby if we could go to the cinema have’nt been in a while so would be a nice treat the first I want to see is Jennifer’s Body which is out on the 4th November this year and the second is Twilight New Moon which is out on the 20th November this year.

I’m a big fan of the first Twilight film and the first book need to get the rest of the books when I can. Jennifer’s Body looks very interesting as you dont really know what kind of moster Megan Fox’s character is or what she is and I like my scary movies mostly Vampire films my favorite is still Vampire Hunter D. Legend of the Seeker

Been watching a new show called legend of the seeker really getting into it. It’s about a young woods guide named Richard Cypher who learns that he is the seeker and that he must defeat the evil Darken Rahl together with a wizard named Zedd and a confessor called Kahlan.

It has a really good story and a lot of plot twist’s. The show kind of reminds me of Xena: Warrior Princess as it’s a fantasy, adventure series. There’s going to be a second season and I cant wait for it really do recomend watching it.

DVD Update

I bought 2 more Studio Ghibli films a while ago Kiki’s Delivery Service and Only Yesterday. Really loved Kiki’s Delivery Service. I also watched The Cat Returns which was on Film Four the other day and I want to get the DVD I thought it was a really good film another favorite of mine.
